Kelanna Azubuike: Not ready for training camp? |
| It looks like it might be a very slow start for Knicks new shooting guard Kelanna Azubuike. According to teammate Toney Douglas he does not expect Azubike to be ready for the Knicks training camp this year. Here is what was reported: "According to Douglas, newcomer Kelanna Azubuike is not yet working at Westchester and still is doing offcourt rehab after missing most of last season with a torn tendon in his left knee. It's looking more doubtful the shooting guard will be 100 percent when training camp opens on Sept. 25. "-New York Post
If Kelanna Azbuike does miss training camp and preseason it will be hard for him to break the Knicks rotation when he is ready. At the same time, this will give Toney Douglas, Bill Walker, and Roger Mason more time in the backcourt to define their roles.

Chandler Speaks:Leadership Working on his shot, and ball handling |
| Via Knicks.com :
"NYKnicks.com: So tell everyone what you have been up to over the summer.
Wilson Chandler: I’ve just been in and out of the gym mainly, you know? I’m working out as much as I can, and I went home to Michigan a couple times to rest and clear my head, but for the most part, I am working out, getting in shape and getting ready for the season.
NYKnicks.com: Last year you missed the last few weeks of the season with an injury. How has the recovery for that gone?
Chandler: Oh man, it’s been a long offseason. I had three surgeries, so they recovery time is long. But I feel good now. I went out to Las Vegas when the team was at Summer League and got some good workouts there. Then I came back and kept exercising and getting stronger. And over time I got better every day and I feel good now. I feel strong.
NYKnicks.com: Your first three seasons here didn’t go as planned. Now you have a whole new team. How excited are you?
Chandler: Oh I am very excited! I’ve waited for this for a few years and the fans have waited for it for a few years, and it is finally here. Amar’e (Stoudemire) is a great addition. We got some good guys that we drafted in Landry (Fields) and (Andy) Rautins and a lot of other real talented guys like Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf, Raymond Felton and a few other guys. I’m excited. I am ready to go.
NYKnicks.com: How do you see yourself fitting in with Amar’e?
Chandler: I think it will be easy for me. I am a team player, so you know I am going to accept the role his presence creates for me. He is just such a talented and really an elite player.
NYKnicks.com: How about Anthony Randolph?
Chandler: He is great. He can get out on that break and is a great finisher. He’s also a great rebounder and a great defender. He is definitely going to be a big asset.
NYKnicks.com: Is there a certain part of your game you are working for this year?
Chandler: Everything. It is important to always work on everything – from shooting to ball handling to leadership and everything else.
NYKnicks.com: How great is it to call Madison Square Garden your home?
Chandler: It’s the best. When you score a basket or make a big play here, it is like no other court in the league. "Knicks.com Read more

Wilson Chandler vows to be more vocal |
| Wilson Chandler paid a visit to the set of Knicks Night Live Thursday night at the Garden and the Knicks forward, who has heard his name regularly mentioned in trade rumors, said one of the things the soft-spoken kid from Benton Harbor, Mich. is working on is to become more vocal. He's also back on Twitter after giving it up a few months ago. Here's Wilson in his own words (plus a few of mine, because I just can't ever seem to shut up):

Earl Barron Turns Wants to Return to NBA |
| Via New York Post: According to a source, Knicks free agent center Earl Barron turned down an offer recently from Maccabi Tel Aviv because he's confident he will sign with an NBA team soon. The Knicks showed interest in re-signing him, but because they overpaid for young Russian center Timofey Mozgov with a three-year, $9 million deal, brass ultimately has to see if he can contribute in his rookie year. Nevertheless, if Mozgov has a poor World Championships for Russia, sources said they could revisit Barron before training camp if he's unsigned."-New York Post I would not be surprised if Earl Barron gets invited to the Knicks training camp. Especially since the Knicks need a big man that can blocks shots and play in Mike D'Antoni's system. Earl Barron proved that he has the ability to do things last season. At this point we don't know how long it will take Timofey Mozgov to make and adjustment to the NBA. For the Knicks, having Earl Barron as a back up plan would not hurt. Now it's just up to Earl Barron to realize that the Knicks are not going to give him more than a 1 year deal. It's also up the Knicks to realize they do need an insurance plan if Mozgov and Eddy Curry are not ready to play next season.

Why the Knicks drafted Andy Rautins |
| Big C) If you are sitting back wondering what’s up with Andy Rautins or thinking why did the Knicks draft him you don’t have to wonder anymore. Apparently when the Knicks worked out Rautins he was tearing up the workouts.
From shooting drills to playing against tough competition, Rautins was a stud in the Knicks pre-draft workouts. People in attendance were highly impressed with Rautins ability to score and pass. When I spoke to Cal Ramsey and asked him why Rautins was drafted 38th he had this to say. “I was there when the Knicks worked him out. He was doing everything. He could not miss. The guy can shoot. I mean he can really shoot. He could not could not miss. He looked great. “I know he did not play well in summer league, but he showed that he can play.” I also learned that Rautins played the point guard position during the pre-draft workouts. I was surprised that the Knicks did not explore Rautins bringing up the ball more during summer league. Especially since that is one of the aspects of his game that he needs to work on.
I think he is a great shooter. However, he has to prove that he can create a shot for himself and be able to bring up the ball at an NBA level. I have not seen enough of that in summer league or during Rautins' time in college. Rautins also showed his skills while playing on the Candian Olympic team and scoring 19 points.
So it is obvious that he can play, but at what level, we just don’t know yet. I am still on the fence with Rautins. However, it’s good to know that Rautins did out play the competition when the Knicks worked him out. Right now I feel Rautins' main challenges are to get stronger and work on this ball handling skills and driving to the hole.
How good he is, who knows? At least we know the talent is there. Now let’s see if he can make the adjustment to the NBA.
