Knicks sign Ronnie Brewer: It's All Good

Written by BigC on . Posted in Basketball Blogs

AP-NEW YORK, July 25, 2012 New York Knickerbockers Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations and General Manager Glen Grunwald announced today that the team has signed free agent guard Ronnie Brewer to a contract.Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Brewer, 6-7, 227-pounds, holds career averages of 9.0 points, on 50.1-percent shooting, 3.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.37 steals over 25.2 minutes in 418 games (267 starts) over six seasons with Utah, Memphis and Chicago. He appeared in 66 games (43 starts) for Chicago in 2011-12, averaging 6.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.09 steals over 24.8 minutes. The Fayetteville, AR-native was originally selected by the Jazz in the first round (14th overall) of the 2006 NBA Draft following his junior season at the University of Arkansas.

So far this is another good signing by the Knicks. After years of being criticized for lack of defense the Knicks add another defensive player in Ronnie Brewer. Brewer is another player that brings defensive intensity to guard his man or when the Knicks are trapping their opponents. He is also a nice piece to add to the defensive core along with Chandler, Smith, Shumpert, and Camby. Brewer is an athletic freak that can score on the break or by following up on shots missed by his teammates. What Brewer lacks from his outside shooting he can make up for with his ability to get to the hole and with good ball movement.

Overall, nice addition by the Knicks. Especially with Iman Shumpert out through mid-season next year.
